Readers display their R/C Tanks
Our eighth R/C tanker is Mr. David Jacobs. “I live in
Virginia Beach, Va. I've been building models since 1969, and had my first
motorized Tamiya in 1971. I always loved the motorized aspect of tank
models, and don't care what the 'dust-collectors' say. I had a 17-year
hiatus from building, and got back into it after building some planes with
my kids. I got some 1/35's, then some 1/25's, then what I thought was going
to be my only 1/16, a RC King Tiger. Two weeks later I walked literally
into a deal for a Leopard, two months later I bought a Bandai Tiger I
followed by an IMAI Elefant about 30 minutes after that. I've got 15 now
with nine completely built. Below is the Tamiya Tiger I, it is from SpzAbt
509 and was photographed by Dick Bernier. The next is a Tamiya King Tiger
of SS SpzAbt 501, after that is my Bandai Pz IV after an extensive
scratch-building of a completely new turret, rear end, and forward half of
the upper hull. Last is my Jagdtiger project, currently on hold for the
last 3 months awaiting the barrel and mantlet from a manufacturer. Notice
not only the extension, but the trimmed up side panels, and lowered forward
deck among other details. ”
