1/6th Scale Early Tiger I
” I am scratch-building this Tiger Type I Early
version. I created my own plans and estimate the weight will be in excess
of 100 kilograms (220 pounds!). The
power is 12 volts and uses eight motors of 80 watts of output. ( I bought
all my motors used because I was poor ). Questions may be emailed to “Thunder” at…dai4tk@c-able.ne.jp
This impressive effort is a work in
progress of Mr. HARUO ITOU.
The completed tank will accept a 1/6th scale tank soldier that
is sold through Dragon. I have already ordered the figure.
Still many problems (such as the speed control) remain. I believe that I can have all the
problems worked out and will be finished in about 3 months. I will report
again as the manufacturing progresses.
His nickname is “Thunder”.

Whatta gearbox! Eight 80-watt electric motors are planned
to motivate the Tiger.

Notice that the chain-drive powers forward road-wheels. Different.

Hello, Mr. KEVIN. Thunder Itou JAPAN
It has been a long time.
This is “Thunder” Itou from Japan.
I finally tested my 1/6Ttiger I on
October 13th, 2002.
It bought a chain hoist to unload the hull from the work stand and lower it
to the ground. I had to make a strengthened scaffold like one would see in
a factory and it put a rail for the movement.
The capital expenditure amount of money to complete this tank was enormous.
I designed all the electric systems.
It made a speed control that has both low and high speed. The low function
eases start-up shock and the model uses it only for initiating from a dead
stop.
The speed isn't over scale speed too much.
Because the torque of 8 motors it is very big, the tank can run itself up
the steep incline into my transportation car.
The (eight) motors are 80 Watt each and they are surrounded by the
thickness armor plate and are very quiet.
There is sound, however. The tank has realistic sound from a unit I
modified using " the TAMIYA Tiger I" sounds and boosting it
through a 25 watt speaker!
The finishing touches will be camouflage coat and the weathering coat to
make it look dirty. I plan to attach additional equipment (as might be
carried on the tank by the crew) after this.
As I finish the detailing, I
will send you a report.
